Quick Takes Vol. 51

Another year of the Nutcracker Ballet is done! It was awesome, Eleanore was a Sugar Plum Fairy Attendant her costume was real ballet tutu and she danced on her toes. She was on stage for a long time which made her happy.   Laura Jo was a cute cherub it appeared to  me that she did great with her dance moves more importantly is she had a great time.   I can't wait to pick up pictures and the DVD this week.

The Nutcracker didn't start until 7:30 on Friday night and the show is about 2 hours long and with getting out of costume and out of parking garage we didn't get home till after 11.  Eleanore ran in the house and laid on the living room floor and was out.

Laura had fallen asleep in the van on ride home, so she visited a bit before crashing on the living room floor.

Hubby came home to watch the Saturday performance. He had a four day pass which translates to three days at home and 1 day travel back to D.C.  Since he was home we waited to have a birthday party for Laura. I was going to do it the Sunday before the Ballet but since he was home to help we waited.  Her birth date was actually Thursday so it worked great.  

My sister came over on Saturday to decorate a Hello Kitty cake for Laura's 5th Birthday party.  Anne helped with mixing of the frosting since she was the only child home when we started.  Theresa was at birthday sleep over for a friend, Ella and Laura were still dancing afternoon performance of Nutcracker.

The party was a huge success or at least huge! My sister gave me a 13 pound ham to cook that we both assumed would have a bone in it ~ wrong. I cooked 13 pounds of yummy ham in my oven for the party.

Can't have my niece over without making Michael and her lay on the floor together for a picture.

She is almost 6 months so no keeping her from rolling to her tummy to get a toy.

Theresa and I have been trying to video Michael talking for a few weeks it seems that he is video shy. But, finally I got him the other night.

I find that I give Michael to who ever is closest to me when I need to do something.  After doing some dancing I had to take supper out of the oven so it was Theresa that was near and got to hold the baby.

Quick Takes Vol. 50

I forgot to click publish on this recap of my week.  I only realized my mistake the second week in January so this is all old news from the second week in December.

Saturday Theresa had soccer at the same time as middles had ballet. I couldn't have asked for a better schedule. After practices I took girls to mall to see Santa.

The middle girls had rehearsals this week and performances for the Nutcracker. I am very excited to watch and to see costumes. Eleanore is an attendant to Sugar Plum Fairy and Laura is a Cherub.

I have been trying to put Michael down more. I have been nursing him and holding him while he sleeps. I also have been bad about not doing tummy time. In my defence look at him who would want to put all that cuteness down.

On Tuesday we were coming home a little after 7 so I drove the team to a Christmas light show near our house. Anne was very excited and kept yelling out about the lights. I told the team I would drive them to see the show again before it shuts down after New Years.

Even with rehearsals Ella had time to lead little girls in crafting after school. Project was making gingerbread foam guys and gals.

Laura outside the the freezing cold the big kids wanted to go outside in the evening so I let them. I may have let them out for too long since both Laura and Eleanore complained about their fingers when I finally got them inside.

Anne helping with cooking, I left the room for a few minutes and came back to her eating the noodles. If you look in the background the craft project from earlier in the week is hung up.

Quick Takes Vol. 49

--- 1 ---

Theresa has been playing indoor soccer in Bismarck.  I finally got to attend a practice last Saturday.  The first week my brother took her, second week it was a quick drop of and pick up. So week 3 I dropped her off took little kids to an indoor play area at the mall for awhile. After playing we went back to dome to watch practice. 

Did I take pictures of Theresa nope, only took a neat shot of Anne taking her nap that lasted all of a minute.   Maybe next time I will take a photo of Theresa's soccer skills.

Can't remember the first week of December 2013 without writing about the freezing rain, snow, and Arctic temps.  

On Monday I had to Michael to his 2 month checkup.  It had rained and frozen overnight so it was an ice skating rink of a parking lot.  I was lucky to be pushing a stroller so I didn't fall.  He weighed in a big boy weight of 12lbs. 2oz. height of 23inches.

Laura had her checkup later on that same afternoon.  Another adventure on ice picking her up at  Head Start. Back to the clinic for her appointment once again glad for the stroller. She received her shots to enter Kindergarten, I was given the paperwork to prove all her shots for school registration. I'm planning/hoping to keep track of the paper till February registration.

Little did I know that the icy adventure was about to get really interesting.

I couldn't make it up my driveway and into the garage when I got back home. All I could think was how was I going to get 3 kids into the house without falling down. The grass wasn't slippery so we unloaded onto the grass and then only had to step a few times to cross the ice into the garage.

--- 5 ---

After getting a good laugh at my driveway and van problem my cousin brought over some dirt to put on the driveway. 

Yea for dirt I made it into the garage. I have also been able to get back into the garage with no problems the rest of the week.  I took girls to bus stop on Thursday and Friday since the temps were below 0 and the wind chill was way way  below.  Figured it was the least I could do so they didn't freeze.

Theresa set a goal of completing addition and subtraction on a math game at school.  She completed the levels this week and is the first kid in her class to move on to multiplication.  Her teacher gave her a little trophy and laminated her certificate of completion.

After the ice on Monday it started to snow on Tuesday. The snow kept on and off for Wednesday too.  Lucky for me that I get to stay home so I was able to clear my driveway on Wednesday I think I started and stopped at least 4 times throughout the day.  I even had help from some little girls some of the time.   I didn't realize it was below 0 temp wise and I may have had them out a little bit to long in the evening but, we all survived.
